West Middlesex Hospital – MRI Waiting Area
New temporary MRI waiting area pod to support two mobile MRI units
Project summary
Marcon built a temporary MRI waiting-area pod at West Middlesex University Hospital to support two mobile MRI units, linked internally to the main hospital.
The challenge
The works were directly in front of the Resus Unit and the Emergency Department ambulance drop-off, where emergency access had to be kept open.
Our approach
Traffic management, close coordination with the hospital and careful scheduling kept emergency access clear while an existing canopy was demolished and the new structure was built.
Outcome
The pod was delivered on programme and supports the hospital’s diagnostic services.
Scope of works
- Demolition of an existing canopy
- Light-gauge steel framed structure with a single-ply roof
- Full M&E integration, drainage and fire systems
- Internal corridor construction
- Refurbishment of a bone density room and office relocation
