Healthy & Safety

Health and Safety is our first priority

All risks are considered early and reviewed at every stage of our projects.

Health & Safety

At Marcon, health and safety is more than a compliance requirement, it’s a fundamental part of how we operate.

We are committed to maintaining safe, well-managed environments for everyone involved in our projects, from our workforce and supply chain to our clients and the communities around us.

Our SHE (Safety, Health & Environmental) management is led by a dedicated in-house advisor and embedded across the business through robust procedures, regular training, and a strong culture of accountability.

We take a proactive, hands-on approach — ensuring risks are identified early and managed effectively throughout every stage of a project.

Key aspects of our approach include:

  • Comprehensive risk assessments and method statements
  • Regular audits, inspections, and toolbox talks
  • Clear communication and active workforce engagement
  • Strong focus on safe working in live, sensitive environments
  • Ongoing training and continuous improvement

We are proud to hold key industry accreditations, including:

  • CHAS (Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme)
  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
  • Constructionline Gold
  • SMAS Worksafe

These certifications reflect our commitment to delivering projects safely, responsibly, and to the highest standards.

Environmental

Marcon are committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon in operation by 2045. This is 5 years prior to the UK’s commitment to the Paris Agreement of 2050.

To achieve this, we are working collaboratively with our clients and supply chain, to ensure that our Greenhouse Gas usage is continuously considered from design, right through construction and even through to the operation of the project.

We invest in the latest innovations and are able to advise on cost differences and greener solutions.

As part of our commitment, we have implemented a number of policies and procedures, and will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure that the company can deliver the very best projects, to value, programme and with a low carbon footprint.

Quality Assurance

We are focused on Quality. Our ultimate goal is to deliver sustainable projects that stand the test of time. Our Business Management System is accredited to the ISO 9001 & 14001 and is subject to both monthly and annual audits to ensure compliance and best practice is being met.

On site, our sub-contractors are subject to the same quality standards we hold our business to, with regular audits undertaken to ensure these standards are maintained.

Our approved supply chain is based on trusting relationships and previous successful projects.

We utilise both the CHAS and Constructionline pre-qualification services as part of our due diligence, ensuring that our supply chain meet and maintain pre-determined KPI’s including Financial Standing, Modern Slavery, Equal Opportunities, and Environmental & Sustainability to name a few.

Social Value

Environmental, Social, Governance is the framework that measures a business’s impact on society and the environment. It focuses on Environment, and what we are doing to ensure we are reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emission (GHG), Social Value, and what we are doing to add value to the local communities, it also considers issues such as human rights, labour standards and community integration, and finally, it considers Governance; this covers how the business is governed, out ethics, compliance, accounting methods and leadership structure.

At Marcon, we build our business on this Framework, with all three pillars factoring into every decision we make. We continue to invest into the latest innovation and construction methods / techniques and technologies, to ensure that we maintain and often exceed quality standards, reduce our GHG and ensuring both our people, and those affected by our works are treated with the upmost respect, leaving only positive impacts to the local communities.

We Have a Variety of Procedures in Place to Assist in Our Endeavours, Including:

Championing Local

Our projects are staffed with employees who reside no more than 25-miles from the project, reducing our fuel emissions. In addition, all labour is sourced from within the local community. We also endeavour to utilise a local supply chain, ensuring that we are not only assisting in the improvement of the local economy, but also simultaneously reducing our carbon footprint.

Renewable Energy

We utilise renewable energy across our operations. In 2023 we reported our electricity usage amounted to just 0.5t CO2e. It is our aim to continue to lower our usage to ensure we meet our Net Zero Carbon targets.

Waste

Whilst the production of waste is inevitable, we have a number of procedures in place to assist with the reduction of waste. This includes starting our journey to working in a paperless manner and bulk ordering to reduce packaging, to name a few. Furthermore, in 2023, Marcon were able to recycle circa 94% of our waste, producing only 0.09t CO2e.

Right the first time

Our commitment to quality is fundamental to both our sustainable and quality strategy. By ensuring that all work meets the highest standards, we are minimising the need for rework, which in turn reduces additional fuel usage and waste generation.
