Medway Hospital – Ruby Ward
Complete strip-out and reconfiguration of Ruby Ward, a new 30-bed cardiorespiratory facility.
Project summary
Marcon was appointed under a JCT Intermediate Contract with Contractor’s Design Portion to deliver Ruby Ward, a new cardiorespiratory facility at Medway Maritime Hospital. Funded by NHS England, the £5 million project is the first phase of the Trust’s plan for a Cardiorespiratory Village and more critical care capacity across the hospital.
The challenge
A new air handling unit had to go into an internal courtyard surrounded by live hospital departments, and the ward itself sat directly beside operational wards.
Our approach
The air handling unit was craned into position at scheduled times, with safety measures in place for patients and staff around the courtyard.
Noisy works were scheduled with clinical staff, and infection control and patient safety procedures were followed throughout.
