Central Middlesex Hospital – EOC
Two laminar-flow operating theatres and a ten-bay recovery ward, built beside theatres that stayed in use.
Project summary
Marcon refurbished and reconfigured the spaces south of the theatre corridor at Central Middlesex Hospital, adding surgical capacity for the centralised delivery of elective orthopaedic services.
The challenge
The works were delivered in a single phase inside a live hospital, while the existing theatres A, B and C stayed in operation.
Our approach
Full-height hard hoardings separated the construction zones from active clinical areas. Fire escape strategies were maintained and integrated with the existing detection systems, and construction activities were planned with the hospital teams around clinical operations.
Outcome
The new theatres expand the hospital’s surgical capacity for elective orthopaedic procedures.
