Overview

Project summary

Marcon Construction was appointed to transform a disused theatre into an Acute Medical Unit, delivering the works through a fast-track programme during the COVID-19 pandemic.

01

The challenge

Complex structural and service works had to be carried out directly adjacent to a live Emergency Department and beneath a functioning Maternity Unit.

02

Our approach

A full strip-out and reconfiguration, with modern finishes and comprehensive M&E upgrades — four new air handling units, ventilation, bedhead trunking, nurse call systems and medical gases.

Strict noise, vibration and dust control protocols were implemented, including AirCubes, acoustic hoardings and carefully timed deliveries.

Outcome

The project was delivered on time, providing the hospital with a modern Acute Medical Unit that now plays a critical role in patient care and flow.
